![]() ![]() Music playing in the background stops, networking stops and not even the the ALT-SysReq commands work! It's as though the machine just halts with no notifications. I should also point out that the symptoms are a complete machine freeze. It has only ever occurred when scrolling pages with video contents (even if not playing). This may just be a co-incidence but I've been running some heavy programs on the machine (thunderbird and netbeans for example) without any issues. I haven't had this happen on other sites but then those sites don't have any embedded videos on them. They seem to occur when scrolling twitter and (less frequently) facebook pages. ![]() I've been seeing random crashes as well on a 4GB Pi4. Please correct me if I'm wrong about Firefox and OpenGL. I know Chromium isn't hardware accelerated but that'll happen in a future release of the new Raspbian.Īlso, afaik Firefox uses OpenGL for it's hardware acceleration and on a Pi 4 that is what's used on Raspbian. The hardware is awesome for the Pi 4 but the software is letting it down but I'm 100% sure this will be addressed with future updates! Firefox obviously can't handle 4k too but 480p is fine. ![]() ![]() Youtube is also pretty slow and I wouldn't even try 4k, I can barely do 480p without buffering with Chromium. if I try the same with Chromium I get a lot of lag/slowness. I'm using Firefox right now and can open Reddit just fine. It is RASPBERRY PI DESKTOP unless you are using a custom desktop environment ?įirefox-ESR has not been compiled for the Raspberry Pi SBC, it is recommended to use the included chromium-browser which has been tweaked by the RPF / RPT.Īs of right now, Chromium is a lot slower than Firefox. Screen goes blank, power led stays red, act led goes off, and it is not possible to ssh into the pi. The pi4 crashes randomly, even just after a fresh raspbian installation. Is it something that I should hand to raspbian ? firefox ? So, here it is, I'm still on the pi, it looks stable and cool as I am typing, not sure what to do next Here :ĮDIT - in fact /var/log/messages is stuffed of these traces from the day I installed firefox ESR I didn't write down the exact time at the moment of the poofs, but I could find some traces in /var/log/messages that look not so good, and the timestamps do seem to match. Or a faulty psu ? but it seems to work nicely all day long other than watching youtube. I am wondering if it could be related to micro power cuts, but it sounds little plausible to me, as the other machines in the same room are fine, including a pi zero. I have been compiling various things in the past days without problems, pushing the cpu hot and busy for extended periods of time, so I am under the impression that the power unit works great, and that the pi4 handles cpu load and temperatures of about 75° nicely. I'm using firefox ESR on LXDE-pixel on raspbian Buster, updated 2 days ago, kernel 4.19.50-v7l+ Here is my hardware : pi4 4GB, usb mouse, usb keyboard, 1680:1050 59.88 dvi-d display, micro hdmi to dvi-d cable, official raspberry 3A psu So far fsck finds a filesystem in good shape after the crashes. It kept up for the whole day yesterday after the same story. I'm on it right now as I am typing, and it is up since 57 minutes without a problem. Leaving the thing unplugged for a while, like 20-30 minutes, and booting it again, and then it seems to be stable. Unplugging the psu cable and plugging it again wakes the pi for a few minutes, when it crashes again repeatedly even if I just stay in a console and just browse logs. The keyboard led remains lit, but when trying to ssh into the pi, it appears to be down. The temperature keeps around 65 ☌, the power led stays lit nicely, when all of a sudden, poof : the display goes blank. I am experimenting crashes since yesterday, and I have difficulties to determine a pattern, maybe it is about watching videos on youtube.īoth yesterday and today, I was watching some short casual 480p videos ( about pi4 ) on youtube, using h264ify on firefox ESR. I am using the pi4 as a desktop replacement, which it does great and silently - that is so cool ! ![]()
