Can't deal with the melee classes that can't move while attacking anymore, shit just feels clunky in comparison. It just feels incredible to play with now that I have all these ridiculous mid-air movement capabilities, like 2 air dashes and triple-jumps. Should make for a great "don't feel like doing anything right now so I might as well do a run or two" game, just like Isaac was for me for the longest time.Įdit: also I'm picking assassin pretty much 100% of the time now. Since the soul shop items don't by themselves buff you at all and they just raise the level caps for everything, I can now just keep running through the "main" game for as long as I feel like, slowly grinding the class levels, gear, runes and castle levels, getting to harder and harder NG+s, seeing how far I can get. don't matter at all in the erebus challenges. I also don't really like the empathy system or the fact that your levels, gear, etc. They're just either completely fucking chaotic and messy boss fights or astoundingly difficulty target time trials. I like the erebus challenges on paper, but I found them to be really frustrating to actually do. Just went "fuck it" and gave myself a massive amount of souls with CE and bought everything the soul shop offered. That said, RL2 just hit over 1000 reviews on Steam in the last 30 days and is about to cross 5000 total, which is pretty great compared to how Full Metal Furies went and considering it's (marginally) cheaper on Epic. The amount of stuff DC got updated with (to this day) is unparalleled and I don't expect RL2 to hit quite the same level of popularity. Hopefully the game also gets some content updates over time, but I'll be wholly satisfied even if it doesn't. It's definitely twitchy at times but also less technical in its combat, which I am finding works better for me. RL2 feels a little more easygoing than DC. I even like it more than Dead Cells, but that's a personal preference. That game's probably more well rounded, but RL2 is not far behind. So more of a "I've got so many things I could do for a chance of pace", than the feeling that "I've got to do so many things." I haven't been this into a rogue-like since Hades, I think. When I don't feel like doing that, I attempt those challenge rooms. Sometimes I go for progress, other times I just try to find the lore bits in each level or try for fairy chests. I've got a couple of things I can upgrade each run. I'm just enjoying spending time in the game and making progress bit by bit. I've not yet hit the point where it feels like a grind, personally. I never thought I'd enjoy a Rogue Legacy game this much. It doesn't feel glacial in the beginning, at least.Īnyway, having a lot of fun with it so far. Progress feels a lot faster, too, but that's probably due to luck. I almost feel like some of the platforming mechanics are inspired by Celeste. The way the game looked, played, and the level designs were giant negatives for me before, but the controls were the one thing I couldn't get over. Gone are the floaty controls this game actually feels good to play in a way the first one actively didn't for me. I think there's one marked difference for me that changed everything. They've managed to balance things in an interesting way and make negative traits actually worth rolling with, and the different classes have made runs feel quite different. Got a few heirlooms so far, but haven't dared to attempt any bosses yet. And I have to say that this game is truly an improvement on nearly every level for me. I feel like the gating of those aspects can seem a bit weird? Not sure if this happens again in future areas, but this was a bit confusing.įinally bit the bullet after some hesitation (since I really, really didn't like the first game). I don't know if it's what actually kicked it off or what, but finally getting one of those finally triggered something so that I could finally find that trial. There were the two laurels in the area, but both seemed to need the traversal skill. I think my one complaint would be sometimes not knowing what needs to happen to progress in the metroidvania context? Like I've basically wandered around after the second boss for a while with different runs and I could never find where to get one of the traversal moves. It's nice to never really avoid a class unless I have a specific intention for the run, it's usually the traits I avoid more than anything. Like his spell only damaged in the indicated circle or something? Anyways, to where it is now feels so refreshing. I didn't really jive early on because it seemed like every class but Knight felt off or weak, or just not as fun? Maybe I'm crazy, but could have sworn at least the mage was a bit different early on. From playing this when it first released in to early access to now is surprisingly different.
